October AOY Points Breakdown
October took the West Coast Bass Anglers east to Parker Strip, Arizona, for the club’s first annual Duel in the Desert. Seven teams faced two days of fishing on the Colorado River, where changing conditions, moving water, and a few unexpected adventures made for a memorable tournament weekend.
Gerald Sowers and Jeff Crosby led the field from wire to wire, finishing with an impressive 30.28 pounds over two days. Frank Schwamborn and Mark Chadeayne finished second with 29.25 pounds, while Dave Mendez and Abraham “GLoomis” rounded out the podium with 26.69 pounds and the tournament’s Day 2 Big Fish.
With the season moving toward its final stretch, October’s results add another important chapter to the Angler of the Year race. Meeting attendance, tournament participation, fish points, Big Fish bonuses, and placement points all contribute to the monthly totals.

The first annual Duel in the Desert delivered a memorable weekend on the Colorado River. Gerald Sowers and Jeff Crosby put together a wire-to-wire performance, while the battle for the remaining podium spots came down to the final day’s catches. Abraham’s 5.12-pound bass helped Team Mendez and GLoomis secure third place, and the rest of the field worked through changing conditions and the usual surprises that make tournament fishing what it is.
October’s points are now on the board, and the AOY race continues. With the season approaching its final stretch, anglers will have to make every remaining opportunity count.
Congratulations to all the anglers who made the trip to Parker. We’ll see everyone at the next meeting.
